The interaction of manmade structures with the natural environment provide inspiration and visual cues as I explore the tension between geometric structure and expressive gesture to find new forms. Shaped wood pulp paper and the casting and layering of up-cycled paper bring dimensionality and space to my paintings and mixed media works. A combination of hard lines, curves and torn edges evokes the feel of architecture and the organic. The colors are saturated, hinting at a commercialism that feels incongruous with the nature-inspired forms. My background in international environmental law continues to direct my attention to how human structures are encroaching on natural habitat, and how nature is adapting, or not. Inspiration for color is drawn from my experiences traveling and by looking at nature. My work always reflects the colors, skylines, and landscapes around me.
