In The Cave v

This is another one of the "cave paintings".I lived in New Mexico for a time. In looking at the cave dwellings in the sides of mountains, I thought about relative light and dark. Going from the brightness outside, into the darkness of a cave, you are walking blindly at first. As the eyes become accustomed, you slowly begin to see what is before you. The shape of the space you're in reveals itself, and the space appears to become illuminated. This painting also deals with the idea of memory, and layers of memory -- how memories can be hazy, or distinct, and how one memory leads to another, unearthing things forgotten. Because of the metallic paint in it, the piece appears differently depending on where you are standing, or how the light hits it.
